From 1 July 2026, Australia’s Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) reforms have been expanded to include a range of Tranche 2 businesses, including conveyancing practices. These changes are designed to strengthen Australia’s financial system by helping detect and prevent money laundering, terrorism financing, fraud, and other serious financial crimes.
As a registered conveyancing practice, Zing Conveyancing is required to comply with these legal obligations. This means that, before or during your transaction, we may ask you to verify your identity, provide information about the parties involved in the transaction, explain the source of funds used to purchase a property, or provide additional supporting documentation where required. These checks are now a standard part of the conveyancing process and apply to many property transactions across Australia.
We understand that being asked for additional information may be unfamiliar to some clients. Please be assured that these requirements are mandated by Australian law and are designed to protect both our clients and the integrity of the property market. Any personal information you provide is handled securely and in accordance with our privacy obligations.
Our team is committed to making this process as simple and straightforward as possible. If you have any questions about the AML/CTF requirements or why certain information is requested, we are happy to explain the process and assist you throughout your conveyancing transaction.
Why do I need to verify my identity?
Australian laws require conveyancers to verify the identity of their clients before completing certain property transactions. These requirements help prevent identity theft, fraud, money laundering, and the financing of terrorism.
As part of our commitment to protecting our clients and complying with Australian legislation, Zing Conveyancing is required to complete identity verification and, in some cases, obtain information about the source of funds used in your property transaction.
Why is Zing Conveyancing asking for my identification?
We are legally required to verify the identity of our clients before proceeding with certain conveyancing matters.
This helps ensure:
What documents will I need?
Depending on your circumstances, you may be asked to provide:
In some cases, you may also be asked to provide proof of your residential address.
How do I complete my identity verification?
We use a secure online verification system that allows you to complete the process from your computer or smartphone.
Simply follow the link we provide, upload your identification documents, and complete the verification process.
If online verification is unavailable, we will discuss alternative options with you.
Will you ask where my money is coming from?
Yes, in some transactions we may ask questions about the source of your funds or wealth.
This may include asking whether the funds are from:
This is a standard compliance requirement and does not mean there is any concern about your transaction.
Is my personal information secure?
Yes.
We take your privacy seriously and only collect information required to meet our legal obligations and provide our services.
Your personal information is handled in accordance with applicable privacy laws and is stored securely.
What happens if I don’t complete the verification?
Unfortunately, if we are unable to verify your identity or obtain the information required by law, we may be unable to act on your behalf or continue with your conveyancing matter.
Does everyone need to complete AML/CTF checks?
Most clients involved in property transactions will be required to complete identity verification.
The level of information required may vary depending on the transaction and individual circumstances.
Is this the same as Verification of Identity (VOI)?
Verification of Identity (VOI) forms part of our AML/CTF obligations. Depending on your transaction, additional information may also be required to satisfy our legal and regulatory requirements.
How long does the verification process take?
Most online identity verifications take only a few minutes to complete, provided you have your identification documents available.
Do I have to complete the verification before settlement?
Yes. We recommend completing the verification as soon as possible after receiving our request to avoid delays with your conveyancing transaction.
